Dear Friends of Greenwood,
With a month to go before we re-open to the public for the 2025 season, Greenwood is abuzz with activity. The renovation of our seven-tier water feature, the Cascade fountain, serves as a prominent example. Contractors, who have been working daily since January, move earth, rocks, and concrete with aplomb! The project will evolve over the course of the season, providing visitors with a firsthand view of how this 100-year-old structure, an iconic symbol of Greenwood’s rich history, is being brought back to life for the enjoyment of all.
Just as busy, our persistent gardeners — no doubt grateful that winter has mostly given way to spring — plant, mulch, and prune their way through the garden, most recently with a welcome boost from our enthusiastic Green Team volunteers. And Mother Nature herself, always proactive, surprises us each day with new bursts of color, whether in the white and yellow tubular, fragrant blooms of the Edgeworthia (paperbush) standing guard next to the Fountain Grotto, or in the new pale pink blossoms of the majestic star magnolias on the Magnolia Lawn which have appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
Be sure to make plans to visit Greenwood this season. In addition to experiencing the magical changes taking place in the garden, you will want to avail yourself of the robust roster of programs that reflect our focus on nature, history, and the arts.
We eagerly look forward to seeing you starting May 2!
