Highlight: Teresa Shields – I Feel Seen
challenges the ways women are observed and
judged, while celebrating their resilience
and creativity. Through sculpted wool felt
and intricate embroidery, Shields reimagines
traditional women’s handiwork, transforming
it into conceptual, thought-provoking objects
that oscillate between amusement and unease.
Her work invites a reckoning
with the role of the female gaze in art,
using sculptural eyeballs that watch the
viewer as much as they are watched, and
symbolic adornments that connect to the
earliest expressions of human identity.
Inspired by Hilma af Klint, martial arts, and
meditative practice, Shields weaves balance,
color, and motion into a body of work that is
as bold as it is introspective.
Teresa Shields will be present
to discuss her work and answer your
questions.
