THE CHRIS ROGERS QUINTET w/special guest VINCENT HERRING will be appearing at the historic Deer Head Inn on Friday, March 7th, honoring the 10-year anniversary of the passing of the great trumpeter Lew Soloff. A treasured family friend since birth and eventually Chris' professional peer on various bandstands, rehearsal & recording studios, Soloff was one of Rogers' primary mentors - having given him his first horn at age 9. Appropriately, Chris will be presenting various straight-ahead 'trumpet-centric' classics from the repetoire of Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Tom Harrell, Joe Henderson and Horace Silver. This special edition of Rogers' quintet will feature for the first time Vincent Herring (alto sax), Tim Horner (drums), Adrian Moring (bass), and recurring member Jon Ballantyne on piano. The iconic Deer Head Inn is one of the longest running jazz clubs and continues to be an artistic hub in the Poconos - with great food, vibes, and just a short trek from NYC! (music from 7 to 10pm, reservations recommended! - 570-424-2000) Chris Rogers has been a featured trumpet soloist with Gerry Mulligan, Mongo Santamaria, The Mingus Big Band, Buddy Rich, Hilton Ruiz, Bob Moses, Eddie Palmieri, Chaka Khan, Arturo O’Farrill, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Ray Barretto & New World Spirit, Mel Lewis & The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Frank Sinatra, Maria Schneider, Tom Harrell's Big Band, Blue Lou Marini, The Ted Nash Big Band, The Vincent Herring Quintet, and many more. HIs new album "Echoes of Cydonia" is due in 2025 and features Ted Nash, Bruce Barth, Jay Anderson, and Steve Johns. Chris is the son of the late NYC trombonist Barry Rogers, best known for his groudbreaking recordings spanning over three decades with Salsa legend Eddie Palmieri; and his being a co-founding member of the seminal early 1970s jazz-rock-fusion band DREAMS with the Brecker Brothers and Billy Cobham.
