Artist Mel Bochner (1940 – 2025), a
founding figure in the Conceptual Art movement of the 1960s, was
best known for exploring the possibilities of language as image,
medium, and content. In this video, Bochner reflects on his
painting The Joys of Yiddish (2012) in the Jewish Museum's
collection. The artist also touches on his relationship with the
Yiddish language, Jewish identity, and his personal history with
the Jewish Museum.
This video is the latest in the Object Lesson
series, which foregrounds works of art in the Jewish Museum's
collection.
