Dear Friends of
the Zimmerli,
Wishing you the happiest of holidays and a joyous, productive and healthy new year!
As the year
draws to a close, I am proud of the wonderful exhibitions and lively
programs that have brought our many communities together here at the
museum. I’m also excited to tell you about the not-to-be-missed
exhibitions coming up in the Spring.
On February 1,
we will open Indigenous Identities: Here, Now & Always,
the largest museum exhibition of works by Native American artists,
curated by the renowned artist and curator, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith
(Citizen of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation). Featuring
over 100 works by 97 artists representing more than 50 Indigenous
tribes, the exhibition will include a diverse range of artworks from
beadwork and jewelry to video and painting.
An accompanying
exhibition, Hope With Humor, will
focus on artworks from the 60-year career of Jaune Quick-to-See Smith,
including paintings and prints from the Zimmerli’s permanent collection
that honor Indigenous survival and resilience with wit and optimism.
Additionally, the museum will present exhibitions
of prints, photography, and children’s book illustrations from our
permanent collection, along with a special exhibition organized
collaboratively with Rutgers’ Humanities faculty offering varied
perspectives on the environment.
Please also
check the museum’s website for our schedule of popular programs, such as
SparkNight, Último Domingo, Art Together and a new monthly, wellness
program, Yoga in the Galleries.
We hope to see
many of you in the Spring at these exciting exhibitions and programs!
Until then,
Happy Holidays!
