The nonprofit Jazz Arts Project, in partnership with Triumph Restaurant & Brewery, presents “The Joys of Jazz” with special guest, jazz great Wycliffe Gordon: A Legends & Lions Concert & Fundraiser.” Every year, this event brings together our Jazz Arts Academy students (the young Lions) with one or more world-class professional jazz artists (the Legend) for a delightful afternoon of live music and joy. Help support arts education and jazz programming in the community with us!

The performance is scheduled to last about 90 minutes with no intermission. VIP tickets are available, which include premier seating and a pre-show private lounge experience with food and drinks. After the show, Jazz Arts Project will offer a “fun-raising” reception with food, refreshments, and a cash bar.



About Wycliffe Gordon:

Musical ambassador and interpreter of America’s music, Wycliffe Gordon, has enjoyed an impressive career touring the world performing hard-swinging, straight-ahead jazz, receiving great acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

Jazz Journalists Association has awarded him “Trombonist of the Year” for a record- breaking 15 times, and he’s topped the Downbeat Critics Poll for “Best Trombone” for an unprecedented six times. Recent awards include the “Louie Award,” the International Trombone Award, and the Satchmo Award, among others. Wycliffe is a prolific recording artist and is extremely popular for his unmatched signature sound, plunger technique, and unique vocals. As a leader, he has released more than 20 solo recordings, including his very popular “Hello Pops: A Tribute to Louis Armstrong” and “Within These Gates of Mine,” an original soundtrack and film score for the 1920s silent film “Within Our Gates” by African-American filmmaker Oscar Micheaux.

He can be heard on hundreds of recordings, soundtracks, live DVDs, and documentaries, including work with other artists such as Marcus Miller, David Sanborn, Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, Natalie Merchant, Rene Marie, Dianne Reeves, Anat Cohen, Ricky Skaggs, Arturo Sandoval, and Doc Severinsen, to name a few.

Gordon also has an extensive catalog of original compositions that span the various timbres of jazz and chamber music. His arrangement of the theme song to NPR’s “All Things Considered” is heard daily across the globe.

In addition to a successful solo career, Gordon tours regularly, leading (his band) the International All Stars, performing at festivals and performing arts centers worldwide. Gordon is also one of America’s most persuasive and committed music educators and is highly sought after as a clinician and guest speaker.
