New Jersey is a
national leader when it comes to protecting the welfare of its children
and families. Decades of reform are building a preventative, anti-racist
and family-centered wellbeing system — one that eliminates the need for
non-kin foster care by empowering and uplifting families.
Our Standing in
Solidarity panel of experts will discuss how the state
supports its families in crises and where the fault lines remain.
The conversation is preceded by a screening of the PSEG True Diversity
film Truth to
Transformation, a documentary about three former foster
children and how their lived experiences impact policies at the
NJ Department of Children and Families.
As you enter the event, visit our partners! Str8Up Employment Services,
Brick City Peace Collective and the Newark Community Street Team will
have resources available in the lobby.
Our conversation will be moderated by Jason Butkowski, Director of
Communications for the NJ Department of Children and Families.
Our panelists
include:
Christine Norbut
Beyer, Commissioner, Department of Children and Families
Katie Bourgault,
Director, Office of Family Voice
Kayann Foster,
a human services professional in Passaic County whose story is featured
in Truth to
Transformation
Cheryl Miller Houser,

Dashaan Jennings,
