NJPAC Arts Education
24 Rector St., Newark, NJ
Discover the power of your voice! Young artists (13 – 18), join NJPAC for our
free poetry workshops and experience joy, empathy and healing through the art
of writing your own poetry. Your writing process will be guided by Newark-based
poets. All skill levels are welcome; no previous experience is necessary.
Participating Youth Artists will receive:
- A
$25 VISA gift card
- Dinner,
snacks and drinks provided
- A
Dodge Poetry notebook and pen
- The
opportunity to perform at the Dodge Poetry Festival on Sat, Oct
19
- Publication
in a Dodge Poetry in the Community Youth Anthology
- The
opportunity to perform at a Dodge Poetry teen open mic
This new initiative will give young artists
the chance to hear — outside a traditional classroom — how poetry feeds the
narratives that propel social justice movements and to add their voices to the
chorus. The program aims to offer them an opportunity to experience, through
reading and writing poems of their own, how joy, empathy and healing can be
intrinsically tied to language and poetry.
