Summer Newsletter

Message from the President

Dear WHATCo Friends,

I am heartbroken to officially share that WHATCo's time in the Holy Cross school space came to its end on June 30, to make the same space available for a new tenant. While we are disappointed that the archdiocese has determined the parish's financial needs cannot allow us to stay in the space any longer, we are hopeful that a new and even better space will be found.

Spending these last 18 months growing and creating together in a single location has been amazing, affirming, and inspiring for all of us. Thank you for your part in creating this special magic with us. But now, we must enlist the the help of our community to help us identify potential space to rent or purchase.

Don’t worry, the changes will be minimal and our theater community will continue to stay connect and grow. For the immediate future, we will continue to drive forward our mission to bring the arts and arts opportunities to you, our West Hudson community - taking performances right into the heart of our towns in public spaces (Shakespeare in the Park in Kearny’s Arlington Depot Park on July 28th!), by partnering with local businesses to have staged readings through our River's Edge Stage, and more. We are excited for you to be a part of that and look forward to sharing plans for a new season of productions soon. Keep an eye on our website (whatconj.org) and follow us on your favorite social media platform for the latest news and events.

Please consider WHATCo in your charitable giving, we need your support (both financial and in-person) now more than ever.

As always, FOR THE ARTS!

Spotlight on Volunteers

WHATCo is proud of and grateful for all of their talented volunteers who help bring the arts to life for the community!

We asked a volunteer about her favorite WHATCo projects and why she enjoys being a part of this theater community.

Paula Baratta
Actor, Singer

“I've enjoyed just about everything I've done at WHATCo. It's hard to pick favorites. I loved being the villain in the Murder Mystery, but if I had to, I'd say that I liked the Children's Shows the best, especially School House Rock.

I guess I like everything about working with the theatre. I get energized by the performing but I also enjoy the "behind the scenes" activity, the rehearsals, the tech days. Most of all, I appreciate the welcoming sense of community that I find at WHATCo.”

We will continue to shine a spotlight on volunteers throughout the year!
