Pleasant Valley Productions is seeking 4 Black actors, ages 18-45 to play various Phases of one man's life.
All genders will be considered.
The H Word is a play where the audience is placed directly in the center of what is known as the “final seven minutes” of brain activity, prior to death. Where life and death intersect and one is left with nothing but themselves, their experiences and their truth.
Our story centers around a deceased man who comes face to face with his life story in the most unusual of ways. As he is guided through his memories, we travel through the human experience. Witnessing the battles and beauty that occur in the overlapping of self.
- PHASE 1 | LIL KEET (Moments of life: birth-11, CHILDHOOD): Loud, a busy body, daddy’s boy, vocal about wants, a storyteller, an extrovert.
- PHASE 2 | DEWEY (Moments of life: 12-17, TEENAGE YEARS): Outed at 16, introverted. Experienced 1st moment of sexual awakening. Has gone through some traumatic experiences. The library is a safe space.
- PHASE 3 | JET (Moments of life:18-25 YOUNG ADULTHOOD): An escapist. A new parent. Black 1st, gay later? Destructive, bold and disruptive.
- PHASE 4 | PAPA/ARMEIN (Moments of life: 26-43 ADULTHOOD): An integral and active part in the community. Learning to become comfortable in living his truth. A work in progress. A great father.
