Celebrate Juneteenth at the Livingston Library
|
|
|
Livingston Library
Community,
We invite you to
celebrate Juneteenth this year at the Livingston Library with
programs and reads for all ages!
On Sunday, June 9th, at 2pm, children grades 3-5 are invited to join us for a Juneteenth Freedom Art
Workshop. During this art workshop, children will
create a mixed media collage while learning about the symbolism
behind colors and how flags can represent historical events &
cultural heritage. To participate visit the Youth Services Desk with
your Livingston Library card 30 minutes prior to the program start
time to receive a ticket. Youth Services will also have a
Juneteenth-themed take-home craft for children beginning the week of
6/17, available while supplies last!
All are welcome to
join us on Wednesday, June 19th, at 6:00pm for a screening of the film
Our America: Black
Freedom. This film (2021, NR, 43, min) takes a
historical look at the origins of the holiday, which commemorates the
emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. This film
screening is in partnership with Livingston’s Committee for Diversity
& Inclusion. Following the film screening, we will make our way
to Town Hall for the flag-raising ceremony.
