Synopsis: Becky Foster is caught in middle age, middle management and a happy, but predictable, 28-year marriage—with no prospects for change on the horizon. Then one night, a socially inept and grief-stricken millionaire stumbles into the car dealership where Becky works. Becky is offered nothing short of a new life…and the audience is offered a chance to ride shotgun in a way that most plays wouldn’t dare. BECKY’S NEW CAR is a thoroughly original comedy with serious overtones, a devious and delightful romp down the road not taken.

Performance Dates:  September 6th-22nd

Produced by: Michael A. Muller

Directed by: Jeanne Johnston

The Director is seeking the following:

4 Adult Males (20-65)

3 Adult Females (20-65)

Character Gender/Age Range Description

BECKY FOSTER (45 – 55) Charming, funny, attractive, she is caught in an exhaustive lifestyle, struggling with work/life balance. A generally light-hearted character with spirit and played with some cheekiness, she looks to escape her current life. Becky is central to the ensemble and drives the show. She has multiple interactive fourth wall-breaking monologues. The actress playing Becky must be willing to begin to memorize lines on being cast, and to begin rehearsals on her monologues prior to July 15.

(Note: If you are auditioning for Becky, we strongly recommend you prepare the monologues in advance.)

JOE FOSTER (45 – 55) Becky’s husband. Strong, pragmatic, loves his wife and family and is significantly smarter than he gives himself credit for.

WALTER FLOOD (45 – 65) A wealthy businessman. Gentle, sweet, good-hearted, and not terribly connected to the real world. Has been lost since his wife’s death.

CHRIS FOSTER (20’s) Joe and Becky’s son. A grad school psychology major; intelligent and self-possessed, but also a little goofy.

KENSINGTON (KENNI) FLOOD (20’s) Rich, cynical, brilliant. Walter’s daughter, she is dating Chris.

STEVE (40 – 55) Becky’s coworker. Still grieving the loss of his wife in a hiking accident. Manic, overly emotional.

GINGER (40 – 50) Walter’s neighbor, scion of a family that has just about gone through its long-held family wealth. Sad, funny, and smart.

NOTES FOR AUDITIONERS

As the play involves close relationships between Joe and Becky, Walter and Becky, and Chris and Kenni, there is some kissing/hugging involved. Actors auditioning for these roles need to be comfortable with intimate scenes.

Additionally, the published script refers to Becky changing her outfit on stage. We have a variety of options available, and we will ensure the actor is comfortable with the final solution.
