The chill of winter has loosened its grip on the
Northeast, and the stage is set for a spring awakening to unfold in
the botanical world. With each passing day here at Greenwood
Gardens, the sun’s embrace grows warmer, coaxing the earth from its
slumber and bidding flora and fauna alike to rouse from their
dormant repose.
In and along our serene enclaves and winding pathways, the
landscape is adorned with this promise of new beginnings as we
await the unfurling buds and blooms of some of our most beloved
signature species. These include flowering dogwood, redbud, Persian
ironwood and cherry trees, majestic London plane and dawn redwood
trees, and numerous ornamental shrubs.
Some tree and shrub branches, already enticed from hibernation by
warming temperatures, have begun to display their delicate spring
buds in our Italianate garden terraces, grottoes, and along our
moss-covered paths. Each bud, bursting forth in a kaleidoscope of
color with unfettered blossom and unfurling leaf, is a masterpiece
of resilience and a testament to the unyielding rhythm of the
seasons.
As we celebrate the arrival of spring, overflowing with boundless
potential and elegant beauty, it is a delight to share images of
some of the most interesting and beautiful early spring buds and
blossoms that are now visible throughout the garden. Three cheers
for Mother Nature, the onset of spring, and warmer days ahead!
