YIDDISH SILVER SCREEN (aka "zilberner kino") by Isle of Klezbos & Friends -- with many fabulous guest artists on these 20 tracks of our silver anniversary release!

Music /movie maven love for "Yiddish Silver Screen": Latest from Hoberman & more

We appreciate all airplay and reviews for our latest album "YIDDISH SILVER SCREEN" from around the country and abroad -- and especially from connoisseurs of Yiddish culture. It's a real joy to share praise from revered (& prolific!) film critic J. Hoberman, who authored "Bridge of Light: Yiddish Film Between Two Worlds." After hearing our latest CD he wrote:

"Very enjoyable. Always great to hear Yiddish tango and the Mikhoels lullaby brought tears to my eyes." — J. Hoberman

And following our recent Klezbos Florida tour, "Out SFL" just published a playlist writeup:

"Isle of Klezbos bring an all-female energy to the klezmer (instrumental, jazz-inflected) music genre. For the sextet’s newest album, Yiddish Silver Screen (klezbos.com), credited to Isle of Klezbos & Friends (including out singer/songwriter Natalia Zukerman), the sextet, while also celebrating its silver anniversary, takes listeners to the movies... with distinctive and pleasing interpretations of music featuring tunes from the Yiddish cinema. The blend of instrumental (such as the marvelousBonia Shur’s Nigun & Cartagena Chosidl”) and vocal (“Circus Lullaby”) numbers result in a sparkling listening experience."

— Gregg Shapiro, Out SFL, "Pre-Pride Playlist"

NYC Klezbos shows coming soon!
& thanks Boston for our sold-out City Winery debut at Haymarket Lounge

Stay tuned for two Manhattan showdates for Isle of Klezbos on the Upper West Side & in the East Village: FREE indoor and outdoor public concerts are coming in early May & later June.

And thanks to our many New England fans, we had a great time playing Boston's City Winery last week: Great to perform for fans from near & far, happy to make our debut at Haymarket Lounge for an inspiring full house -- bandmates Debra Kreisberg, Shoko Nagai & Eve Sicular onstage, welcoming our wonderful guest Abigale Reisman on violin as well as vocals -- as well as special surprise guest singer Annie Cohen from all the way across the Atlantic!

Annie is also heard on two tracks of latest Klezbos album "Yiddish Silver Screen," harmonizing on both with Cantor Rachel Weston -- give a listen:

"Abi Gezunt: Molly's Cautionary Tale" (see an animated version too, video here)
& this lyrical yet radical adaptation of spring prayer: "The Poor Man's Akdomoys"

Onstage/offstage: Flashbacks from Puffin

The first time we met photographer Hank Gans, he took this charming photo above of our band performing at Puffin Cultural Forum. Only later, thanks to Hank's camera, were we even aware that this entranced couple were dancing to our music in the next room. We'll be back here just two weeks from tomorrow night, playing this wonderful venue yet again. Don't miss us on March 23rd! Returning by popular demand: Debra Kreisberg on clarinet & sax, Pam Fleming on trumpet, Shoko Nagai on accordion & piano, and Eve Sicular on drums. Enjoy the music and spend secular Purim together with us too. Tickets here or click Hank's lovely photos.
