Light Opera of NJ will host Stars of Tomorrow, a
vocal competition for New Jersey High School students. The competition
will consist of a qualifying round based on videos that students submit
online, followed by a semifinal round on April 6 at 10 AM in South
Orange, NJ and the finals on April 21 at 2 PM in Basking Ridge, NJ.
Prizes are $1000 for first place, $500 for second and $250 for
third as determined by the judges, plus $100 for the audience favorite.
Registration begins early in February on https://lonj.org and closes on March 15, so
start preparing your videos now and hold the dates open for the
semifinals and finals. We will request unedited videos without any kind
of audio enhancement of two songs in contrasting styles: both from the
Musical Theater repertoire, both from the Operatic repertoire or one
from each. They may be recorded with or without accompaniment and need
not be professionally produced. A video made on a mobile phone is
fine.
Tickets for non-contestants attending the final round will
soon be available at $35 for the competition only and $45 for both the
competition and reception with refreshments immediately
after. More information will be available when the registration
link opens in early February.
According to Jason Tramm, Executive Producer, "LONJ
is committed to finding and presenting the best New Jersey high
school-aged musical theater and opera talent. We will be eagerly
looking forward to reviewing the submissions with top professionals
from the vocal field!"
