Our Scholar-in-Residence this year is
Jordan B. Gorfinkel.
Known as Gorf, he is a
cartoonist, musician, producer, director, and proud father (not
necessarily in that order).
Please join us for
Friday, Feb. 2: Gorf
will speak after Shabbat evening services at 6:30 PM; His featured
presentation will be, The Exodus, The Dark Knight and Being A
Jewish Superhero. We will follow services with a Community
Shabbat Dinner at 7:30 (register here). The cost is only $18
per family, thanks to a Centennial Shabbat grant from Jewish Federation
of Greater MetroWest.
Saturday, Feb. 3: On
Shabbat morning, from 9 to 9:50 - Parashat Hashavua will feature Gorf
as he guides participants to provide "color commentary" on
passages from the Parsha, as seen through the lens of their personal or
professional experience—just as he does with his Batman experience.
You'll never look at Torah again the same way!
During kiddush after
Shabbat morning services, Gorf will address Moses, Esther, Wonder
Woman & Superman — How the secret origins of superheroes and
their Jewish creators spotlight Jewish traditions and wisdom.
Sunday, Feb. 4: At
10 AM Gorf will lead a Jewish Cartoon Workshop in which participants
of all ages (adults, youth, families) make Jewish- and holiday-themed
cartoons that are collected into a collective comic book for everyone
to enjoy and learn from. RSVP here.
Check out Gorf's full bio here.
For nearly a decade, Gorf managed a team of writers, artists, and
creators on the Batman franchise for DC Comics, producing more than
2,000 stories in multiple mediums.
