WHAT TO PREPARE

Auditionees will sing two song excerpts: one uptempo, and one ballad. At least one of these must be in pop/rock/contemporary style of Footloose. Excerpts should be 16 bars long. Please bring sheet music in a binder for the accompanist, with your cuts clearly marked. The acting segment of auditions will be by cold reading only. No Monologues will be seen at this audition. Auditionees should also prepare for and dress appropriately for a movement audition unless they are only interested in the "adult characters."

CHARACTERS

 

Ren McCormack (Lead - M - HS Senior - Casting 18+ only - Any Ethnicity) – Pop/Rock Tenor. Energetic, emotional, rebellious, likeable; emotes his pain through quirky sarcasm and dance; strong dancer.

 

Ariel Moore (Lead - F - HS Senior - Casting 18+ only - Any Ethnicity) – Mezzo-Pop. Smart, a bit of the bad girl with an edge, sweet, the rebellious minister’s daughter; role requires strong belt, must be a strong singer/dancer.

 

Rev. Shaw Moore - (Lead - M - 40-60 - Any Ethnicity) – Baritone. The powerful, traditional local church leader; strict, stern, and solemn, still struggling with the death of his son.

 

Vi Moore - (Supporting - F - 35-55 - Any Ethnicity) –  Soprano. Reverend Moore’s loving, supportive, resilient wife.

 

Rusty - (Supporting - F - HS Senior - Casting 18+ only - Any Ethnicity) – Pop/Belt. Ariel’s friend; a bit scatterbrained, sweet, fun, knows everything about everything; role requires strong belt, strong comedic timing and dance.

 

Willard Hewitt - (Supporting - M - HS Senior - Casting 18+ only - Any Ethnicity) – Bari-Tenor. A simple country bumpkin with a warm heart and a big smile; comedic timing and dance a must.

 

Ethel McCormack - (Supporting - F 35 - 55 - Any Ethnicity) – Mezzo. Ren’s mother; had a tough go, just trying to make it…would do anything for her son.

 

Chuck Cranston - (Supporting - M - HS Senior - Casting 18+ only - Any Ethnicity) - Tenor. The local bad boy and Ariel’s boyfriend.

 

Wendy Jo - (Supporting - F - HS Senior 16+ - Any Ethnicity) - Pop/Belt. Ariel’s friend; strong belt, comedic timing, and dance required.

 

Urleen - (Supporting - M/F/NB - HS Senior 16+ - Any Ethnicity) - Alto. Ariel’s friend; the smart one of the group; role requires strong belt, comedic timing, and dance.

 

Jeter - (Featured - M/F - HS Senior 16+ - Any Ethnicity) - Friend of Willard and Ren, must be comfortable with harmony.

 

Bickle - (Featured - M/F - HS Senior 16+ - Any Ethnicity) - Friend of Willard and Ren, must be comfortable with harmony.

 

Garvin - (Featured - M/F - HS Senior 16+ - Any Ethnicity) - Friend of Willard and Ren, must be comfortable with harmony.

 

Lyle- (Featured - M - HS Senior 16+ - Any Ethnicity) - A wrestler and friend of Chuck, joining him against Ren and his plans. Must be comfortable with harmony.

 

Travis - (Featured - M - HS Senior 16+ - Any Ethnicity) - A wrestler and friend of Chuck, joining him against Ren and his plans. Must be comfortable with harmony.

 

Betty Blast - (Featured - F - 55+ - Any Ethnicity) - Owner of the Burger Blast, Ren's boss.

 

Lulu Warnicker - (Featured - F - 30+ - Any Ethnicity) - Ethel's Sister, Wes' wife.

 

Eleanor Dunbar - (Featured - F - 30+ - Any Ethnicity) - Roger's Wife Head of the Town Council.

 

Wes Warnicker - (Featured - M - 30+ - Any Ethnicity) - Ren's Uncle, Lulu's husband. Misogynistic.

 

Roger Dunbar - (Featured - M - 30+ - Any Ethnicity) - Wrestling Coach and Eleanor's Husband.

 

Cowboy Bob - (Featured M - Early 20s - Any Ethnicity) - Lead Singer of the country band at the Bar-B-Que
