Be More Chill is a musical with music and lyrics by Joe Iconis and a book by Joe Tracz, based on the 2004 novel of the same name by Ned Vizzini.
Jeremy Heere, an average and socially awkward high school junior, desires to be more popular. When he discovers the existence of a pill-sized supercomputer called a "Squip," which promises to improve its user's social standing, he decides to take it. The Squip, which implants itself in Jeremy's brain, gives him real-time advice on how to act, talk, and dress in order to fit in.
However, as Jeremy starts to climb the social ladder, he begins to alienate his best friend Michael and pursues a romantic interest in Christine, his long-time crush, all under the manipulation of the Squip. As the story unfolds, the Squip's true intentions are revealed, and Jeremy must confront the costs of popularity, the value of genuine relationships, and the challenges of self-acceptance.
