This Week: LITTLE HISTORY EXPLORERS: BIRDS’ NESTS September 21 The birds are out at Historic Speedwell and so are we! Join us to learn about the local birds and collect natural materials around the Speedwell site to make a bird’s nest craft. Includes story time, snack, and take-home craft. Find out more! Cost: $8 per child. Preregistration is required.   BATTY BATS NIGHT WALK September 22 Join the Conserve Wildlife Foundation in this fascinating night walk to learn about, and hopefully find, bats as they begin their evenings. Learn bat facts along the trail and discover how the bat conservation biologists track the bats and study them! Register for a time slot today! Learn more here. Cost: $15 per person. Preregistration is required.   FALL MIGRATION BIRD WALK September 22 Birds are starting to depart on their migratory journeys and are passing through the Great Swamp on their way. Join us as we search for their more muted colors and listen for their "chips" among the trees with an expert birder. All skill levels welcome. Bring binoculars or borrow ours. Find out more info here. Cost: $8 per person. Preregistration is required.   POND LIFE EXPLORATION September 27 Come explore the amazing creatures that live in the pond! We will focus on the bugs, snails, and worms that often get overlooked as we dig in the mud and take a closer look at them! Wear clothing for getting wet or muddy. Check it out! Cost: $7 per child. Spotlight On: FALL FARM FUN September 30, October 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29 Fall festivities have begun at Fosterfields!  Experience the Autumn season the old-fashioned way on Saturdays and Sundays in October! Watch apples being pressed into cider, take a wagon ride and pick your own pumpkins! Pumpkin guaranteed with pre-registration only. Everything is included with your admission. Check it out! Cost: $15 per person, children 2 & under are FREE. Preregistration is recommended. SCARECROWS IN THE GARDEN October 1 – October 31 Throughout the month of October, visitors can take a stroll through the gardens to see dozens of ghoulish, historic and colorful scarecrows including Gary the Gardener and the Umbrella Sisters tasting tea. Learn more here! Cost: FREE. LENAPE DAY October 7 Our annual Lenape Day event is back! Join members of the Ramapough Lenape Tribe to learn all about Lenape history, experience ceremonial dances and drumming, touch real Lenape artifacts from thousands of years ago, make crafts, and more! Look What’s Coming: SUNSHINE YOGA FOR KIDS: DINOSAURS September 30 An awesome class for kids who want to play games, use their imaginations, and have FUN! Each class is taught by a licensed yoga instructor and centers around a nature theme. Kids learn 5 yoga poses to use in our games. At the end of every class, we will talk about a “big feeling”, such as being mad, and learn a new tool to help us cope with that feeling. Find out more info here. Cost: $12 per child. Preregistration is required.   STRANGEST THINGS October 20, 21, 27, 28 Calling all thrill seekers! Do you love the macabre and stranger side of history? Join us for a night of horrifying historic happenings at Historic Speedwell. Experience the scary side of the past in the haunted Vail House, and the bone-chilling true events of murder, mystery and mayhem surrounding Antoine LeBlanc and the Morristown Ghost are sure to horrify - because the truth is stranger than fiction. Preregistration is required.   TEENY TINY TRAIL TALES October 28 Families with small children will enjoy a guided walk full of silly and nature-themed tales told by costumed storytellers along the decorated trails of the Great Swamp. Wear your own costume too! Make sure to sign up for your time slot in advance! Check it out! Cost: $5 per person. Preregistration is required.   TRAIL TALES October 28 Hear silly, slightly spooky and nature-themed tales told by costumed storytellers along the decorated, glowing nighttime trails of the Great Swamp. Time slots every 15 minutes starting at 5:30. Sign up in advance for a slot - they fill up quickly! Great for families with kids ages 6 & up, scout groups, and adults. Learn more! Preregistration is required.   S’MORE FUN TRAIL RUN November 12 The S’more Fun Trail Run features a chip-timed 5k race or a 1-mile family fun run/walk at Central Park of Morris County’s cross-country course. After your run, stop by the campfire to warm up and roast some marshmallows! Everything is S’MORE fun around the campfire! The deadline for T-Shirts is October 20th, so be sure to register before then to secure an awesome shirt! Not in the area? We have you covered!
