Synopsis: It’s a Wonderful Life is an adaptation of Frank Capra’s masterpiece film. This is the saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been squashed by family obligations and civic duty, and whose guardian angel has to descend on Christmas Eve to save him from despair, and to remind him – by showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born – that he has had, after all, a wonderful life.

Clarence Oddbody (M 40s+) An Angel, Second Class, trying to earn his wings

 

Mary (Hatch) Bailey (F 35-ish) George’s wife, she is his rock

 

Joseph (M 40s+) Clarence’s mentor (voice, mic-d off stage)

 

Henry Potter (M 50s+) The villain of the story

 

Mother Bailey (F 60s) George’s and Harry’s mother

 

Uncle Billy (M 57-ish) George’s uncle, works at the Bailey Bldg and Loan, very forgetful

 

Tilly (F 30s+) works at the Bailey Bldg and Loan

 

Ernie (M 30s-40s) George’s friend, a cabdriver

 

Bert (M 30s-40s) George’s friend, a police officer

 

Mr. Gower (M 50s+) The town pharmacist

 

Harry Bailey (M 30s) George’s younger brother

 

Violet Bick (F 30s) Friend of George’s, has a crush on George

 

Reineman (M 30s+) Mr. Potter’s assistant

 

Peter Bailey (M 60s) George’s father

NOTES FOR AUDITIONERS

Readings will be from the script. Sides will be available at auditions.

 

Yes, this production is very much like the movie.

 

Please bring a resume and a headshot, if you have them.

It is not necessary to come to both audition dates.

 

The Director will schedule 2-3 rehearsals per week, Sunday – Wednesday,

based on best cast availability on the following dates: September 18 – November 30. Not all cast will be called for all rehearsals in the beginning, as we work on individual scenes.

 

Please be prepared to list your potential rehearsal conflicts on your audition form.

 

** Rehearsals will be mandatory starting the week of November 12.

Rehearsals will be 7:15 – 9:15 pm, until mid-November, when they will likely go later. All tech week rehearsals and all performances are mandatory, including Tech Sunday. Please note that Tech Sunday is November 26, which is the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. Rehearsal will likely begin at 2 pm on Tech Sunday.
