We sit or squirm for a story, snack and hands-on activity.

All Aboard! – August 24

All Aboard to learn about the arrival of trains to 19th century Morristown, NJ! Bring your little one down to Historic Speedwell to learn about the first train line to come to Morristown, how the Vail family contributed to the trains, and make your own train out of cardboard. This program will include a story time and take-home craft.

Cast and Play! – August 31

Wonder how the Speedwell Ironworks made perfect iron shapes? Come down to Historic Speedwell to learn about how Speedwell Ironworks would cast iron in the 19th century and make your own cast creation in playdough molds. This program includes a story time and a take home craft. Find out more!

Cost: $8 per person. Preregistration is required.

August 26

Enjoy some Moo-sic at the farm! Bring a blanket and enjoy an evening concert from Arts International String Orchestra, as they play a beautiful range of music. Check it out!

LIVING SCULPTURE TOUR

August 26 – 10 – 11 am

A guided tour into the vision of Seward Johnson's Sculptures and the diverse landscape of Willowwood Arboretum. Get a brief history on the life of the artist and the creators of Willowwood Arboretum while experiencing art in nature.

Cost: $15 per person. Preregistration is suggested.

GARDEN TALES IN THE ROSARIE

August 29 – 10 – 11 am

Explore story time surrounded by the beauty of the Rosarie at the Willowwood Arboretum. This event is outdoors, so dress for the weather. Meet near the main parking lot by the Stone Barn and walk to the Rosarie as a group.

Cost: FREE.

PERENNIALS FOR THE DEER RESISTANT GARDEN

August 31 – 1 – 2 pm

Walk the gardens of Willowwood and explore the deer resistant perennial plants that are on display. Wear comfortable shoes for walking.

Cost: $15 per person. Preregistration is suggested.

September 1

Birds are starting to depart on their migratory journeys and are passing through the Great Swamp on their way. Join us as we search for their more muted colors and listen for their "chips" among the trees with an expert birder. All skill levels welcome. Bring binoculars or borrow ours. Check it out!

How many species can we find and identify in just 60 minutes? Let's find out! Learn to use inaturalist and other wildlife apps as well as ID books to identify everything we see throughout the Great Swamp OEC to get a snapshot of our wildlife. Click here to learn more.

Bamboo Brook Fall GardensTOUR: THE SPLENDOR OF WATER AT BAMBOO BROOK

Explore a deeper dive of the gardens and features of Bamboo Brook in this tour of Martha Brookes Hutcheson's home. Discover the reasoning behind the key design elements of Bamboo Brook. Wear sturdy walking shoes and dress for the weather. Meet at the bottom of the main parking lot stairs. Find out more.
