May Update from the Executive Director of Greenwood Gardens

Wander Nature, Beauty, and History This Season

After months of preparation, we are eager to welcome you back to the gardens on May 5 when we open for the 2023 season! This is a particularly special time:  We are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the founding of Greenwood Gardens in 2003 by the late Peter P. Blanchard III and his wife Sofia A. Blanchard.  So much was accomplished over the last two decades by these two intrepid dreamers who, along with a passionate founding Board of Trustees, active volunteers, experts from the Garden Conservancy, a dedicated staff, loyal members, and of course, supporters like you!

Take time during your visit to:

1. Enjoy the aroma of the awakening spring garden and let your eyes feast on the hundreds of new plants added throughout the landscape.

2. Wander by the picturesque century-old cottages on your way to the gardens.

3. Stop in at our Welcome Center where friendly staff will greet you and help you on your way.

4. Join a guided tour to learn about the history of the two families that made this site their home dating back to the early 20th century.

5. From the top of the Main Lawn staircase, let your eyes feast on the dramatic sweep of the Main Axis.

6. Listen to the soothing water flowing in the stately fountains on the Reflecting Pool Terrace and the Garden of the Gods.

7. Admire the panoramic view from the top of the Arts and Crafts style Teahouse, just down the path from the Summerhouse.

8. Relax at the ponds on one of the many comfortable teak benches located throughout the site and watch for our gaggle of energetic geese to walk by.

9. Pay a visit to the barnyard where our friendly turkeys and chickens make their home.

In short, make a point to relish all the nature, beauty, and history that Greenwood has to offer!

We look forward to seeing you, along with your family and friends, in our historic garden oasis starting this weekend through November 4Be sure to register in advance!

See you in the garden!
