Our inaugural SOMA backStage Reading Series is one week away!

Filled with Broadway professionals and cast almost entirely with SOMA-area locals, the SOMA backStage Reading Series provides a platform for new plays and musicals to be showcased in a public presentation.  You will get the unique opportunity to see these new works in their earliest form and provide feedback to help shape the future of their development.

STILL, a new play

By: Lia Romeo

Directed by: Adrienne Campbell-Holt

Thirty years ago, Helen and Mark broke up. Now he’s running for Congress, and she has a secret that could derail his bid. A play about lost love, reproductive rights, political differences, and the ways people change… or don’t.

Don't miss Tony Award Nominee Christiane Noll (Dear Evan Hansen, Ragtime) and Broadway and Television star Jeff McCarthy (Urinetown, Elementary, Madam Secretary) in this funny, thought provoking, and very timely two-hander by Juilliard fellow Lia Romeo.

Matinee performance will be followed by a talkback!

REVIVAL, a new musical

By: Chris Miller (music & book) & Nathan Tysen (book & lyrics)

Directed by: Lisa Peterson

In a small prairie schoolhouse at the turn of the last century, the leader of a religious sect persuades Elin Hermannson, wildest troublemaker and greatest fiddler on the Nebraska frontier, to renounce sin and destroy her violin. Two years later, visiting Manhattan socialite Margaret Elliott encounters the now taciturn Elin and vows to save her from her ascetic existence and reawaken her passion for music. Margaret’s undertaking proves more dangerous than she thought, as both her and Elin’s lives are forever changed. Based on a short story by Pulitzer Prize winning author Willa Cather.

Don't miss Broadway star Ashley Spencer (Rock of Ages, Grease) and the Fiddler on the Roof herself Lauren Jeanne Thomas lead this Broadway filled cast in Chris Miller (Tuck Everlasting) and Nathan Tysen's (Paradise Square, Amelie, Tuck Everlasting) new musical about finding yourself and following your passions.

Matinee performance will be followed by a talkback!
