The week is finally over! Start your weekend right with a guided hike just for families on the trails of Pyramid and Turkey Mountains. Get your boots and bring plenty of water because these moderate level hikes cover several miles over uneven, rocky terrain. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome too! Click here for more info.

We sit or squirm Friday mornings for a story and a snack with young learners and a parent. Afterwards, enjoy an age-appropriate craft and a sense-based tour in our historic mill, where water powers our millstones. Learn more here.

yogaSUNSHINE YOGA FOR KIDS: PLANET EARTH

April 22

An awesome class for kids who want to play games, use their imaginations, and have FUN! Each class is taught by a licensed instructor and centers around a nature theme. Kids learn 5 yoga poses to use in our games. At the end of every class, we will talk about a “big feeling,” such as being mad, and learn a new tool to help us cope with that feeling. The Raptor Trust is an amazing organization in our own backyard that is renowned across the country for its work to save thousands of injured birds each year. In this interactive presentation, hear their true success stories spotlighting the amazing things their staff and volunteers have had to do to help birds big and small get back into the natural world. We’ll also learn how people can be part of the problem, and you’ll leave with easy, actionable ideas for how to help birds thrive. Finish with a meet and greet with a LIVE rescued bird of prey! Discover early industries along the Black River with industrial archeologist Joe Macasek. This is a 3-mile moderate walk along the Hacklebarney Branch of the railroad, lower millpond, mid-1800s iron mining and bloomer forge, and Kay’s dam. Meet at the Cooper Gristmill parking lot. Learn more here

April 25

What better way to spend a Tuesday afternoon? This 4-mile hike goes to the overlook of Lake Valhalla, to the stone ruins, down to the waterfalls, and back up to the top of Turkey Mountain. This is moderate to difficult, on hilly, rocky terrain. Come prepared with proper attire, water, and snacks. Check it out!

Garden Sprouts will look for signs of birds around the garden and make their own bird feeder out of recycled materials. Learn more here.
