Preregistration is required.   SEED STARTING FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEED GARDEN March 11 Seed catalogs are coming and it's time to thinking about your vegetable garden. Learn how to save time and money in this vegetable seed starting workshop. All participants will learn, plant, and take home some new and interesting varieties for their garden. Check it out! Cost: $20 per person. Preregistration is required.   SCOUTS OF AMERICA FORESTRY MERIT BADGE WORKSHOP March 11 Learn all about the native forest while completing your Forestry Merit Badge. Walk the trails of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, create a field notebook, find native and non-native trees and learn how to plant trees and start others from seed. Preregistration is required.   COURSES IN NATURE: BE BEAR AWARE March 12 Courses in Nature is a monthly series for nature-minded adults led by an expert naturalist in which a topic is explored in depth with a multimedia presentation & a walk. Preregistration is required.   FROG WALK FOR LITTLES March 13 and March 20 at Great Swamp, and March 30 at Pyramid Mountain Join us with your toddler to take a walk with a naturalist to visit the vernal pools and the many frogs that are singing. Preregistration is required.   FROG JAMBOREE March 13, March 19, March 25, March 29, and March 30 The spring peepers and wood frogs are singing in the forest pools.  Learn all about these two frogs, looking and listening for them from the trails on a naturalist-led walk. Spotlight On: HANDS-ON HISTORY DESIGNING A BACKYARD FARM GARDEN – March 9 In this seminar we will be discussing and laying out our backyard farms! We will discuss a number of topics such as setting, light requirements, critters and more. We will also supply some seeds!  Click here! STAMPING, STICKERS, AND STENCILING SATURDAY – March 11 Create cards or pictures with stenciling, stamping or stickers. We will be stenciling with paint, so please wear old clothes. Click here. SPRING FLOWERS FELTING – March 15 With spring on the way, come out and learn the basics of needle felting by making your own felted rose! Click here. HAND SPINNING WITH WOOL – March 16 We are giving it a whorl at Fosterfields with our hands-on experience creating yarn. Beginners of all ages will use wool hand cards to prepare fibers for spinning, then use a drop spindle to create yarn. Take a spin on our spinning wheel or bring your own! TUBBS LECTURE - THE RUTGERS UNIVERSITY DOGWOOD BREEDING PROGRAM: A LONG HISTORY SUPPORTS AN EXCITING FUTURE April 23 Associate Professor of Plant Biology at Rutgers University, Tom Molnar, will speak on the university's long history of research and breeding of Dogwoods from its beginning in the 1960s through his own new cultivar Cornus kousa Scarlet Fire®.  Learn the history of this great landscape tree and get a glimpse of new plants in the pipeline.
