For over five
decades, The Doobie Brothers have been known for
delivering mind-blowing, roots based,
harmony-laden, guitar-driven rock and roll – all of
which recently culminated in an induction into the
2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Their No. 1 singles
“Black Water” and “What a Fool Believes" lead
a catalog of indelible songs that include: “Listen
to the Music,” “China Grove,” “Jesus Is Just All
Right,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” “Long Train

we'll be highlighting stories of women at MPAC,
both on stage and behind the scenes!
This week's feature is World
Choreography Award nominee and Telly
Award-winning director and choreographer Joya
Kazi, whose show Rhythm India:
Bollywood and Beyond, is coming to MPAC
March 22.

Joya Kazi is an Indian American choreographer and actress born in Mumbai and raised in
California. She founded her dance company, Joya Kazi
Unlimited, at just 16 years old and began working in
both the Hollywood and Indian Film Industries. She has
appeared in projects spanning Hollywood to India such
as in TV Shows Never Have I Ever and New Girl,
in commercials for Walmart, Hyundai, and Radio Shack,
in Music Videos for DJ Snake ft. Lauv "A Different
Way", Raja Kumari "I Did It", The
Strokes " Threat of Joy", and in Indian
feature Films "I am Singh", and "Na Peru
Surya Na Illa India." Joya is featured on a public
mural at the Artesia Library of Los Angeles County
representing the city's South Asian influence of art
and culture.
She is a member of the Emmys/Television
Academy, has served on the SAG (Screen Actors Guild)
Awards Nominating Committee and has also served on
countless judging panels including at the World
Choreography Awards. Behind the camera, she represents
and casts the finest South Asian dance talent and
consults on productions from stage to screen worldwide!
Rhythm India: Bollywood and Beyond takes you on a journey of dance and
celebration through Bollywood and beyond. Experience

soulful rhythms echoing heartbeats of royal palaces and
sacred temples, desert villages and modern
stages.
