Yana Kane, a
resident of Madison was born in Russia and emigrated to the United
States when she was 16. A published poet herself, in 2021 she began
to translate the Russian-speaking Ukrainian citizens' "Poetry
of Witness" to the aggression that ultimately manifested
itself in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Julia, a
bright university student, is preparing for a life abroad when an
unexpected romance sparks between her and English, a damaged
soldier returning from the war zone in eastern Ukraine. From
metropolitan Kyiv to a remote Carpathian village, Julia and English
must decide if they are ready to build a future together in a
homeland that is slowly being torn apart.

Ukrainian artist Halyna Andrusenko and two Ukrainian-American
artists Hanna Melnyczuk and Olha Powzaniuk, this exhibit features
works created after the Russian invasion by artists living in
Ukraine.

April 2 to celebrate and bid farewell to the Don't Close Your Eyes:
Ukrainian Artists Respond to the War exhibit with two very special
artists from Ukraine: pianist Larysa Maliutina and dancer Oksana
Horban. Each will perform solo pieces then collaborate on a final
