HAND SPINNING WITH WOOL – March 16

We are giving it a whorl at Fosterfields with our hands-on experience creating yarn. Beginners of all ages will use wool hand cards to prepare fibers for spinning, then use a drop spindle to create yarn. Take a spin on our spinning wheel or bring your own! This program is intended for children and adults. Click here for more info.

March 17

Make popcorn the old-fashioned way and learn how they did it before the microwave! Toast a marshmallow and enjoy a s’more. Learn more here.

sensory friendlySENSORY FRIENDLY SATURDAY

March 18

Visit Fosterfields for our new Sensory Friendly Saturdays. This is an event that is designed to be less overwhelming to those with sensory sensitivities. This hour-long program allows families to come to the farm and enjoy the open, quiet spaces with no crowds. Learn more here.

March 18 at Frelinghuysen Arboretum and March 25 at Willowwood Arboretum

Learn the how’s and why’s of pruning, the science behind it, and what tools to use from Bruce Crawford, Manager of Horticulture. Practice your new skills on the trees and shrubs in the gardens. Dress for the weather and bring your garden gloves and pruners. Click here for more!

The spring peepers and wood frogs are singing in the forest pools.  Learn all about these two frogs, looking and listening for them from the trails on a naturalist-led walk. Rain or shine. Check it out!

March 25

It's Makers Day! Science, technology, and gardening come together to produce soilless crops. Join the Education Staff at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum and discover the secrets behind hydroponic gardening. Kids will make their own simple hydroponic system to bring home and grow their plants. Click here for more!

yogaSUNSHINE YOGA FOR KIDS: BIRDS

March 25

An awesome class for kids who want to play games, use their imaginations and have FUN! Each class is taught by a licensed instructor and centers around a nature theme. Kids learn 5 yoga poses to use in our games. At the end of every class, we will talk about a “big feeling”, such as being mad, and learn a new tool to help us cope with that feeling. Find out more!

March 29

With some time, teeny tiny seeds grow into very big plants. How? Sprouts will discover what is inside a seed, and will start their own. Click here for more!

March 30 at Pyramid Mountain

Join us with your toddler to take a walk with a naturalist to visit the vernal pools and the many frogs that are singing. Enjoy a frog-themed story too! This program is rain or shine, frogs don't mind the rain! Learn more here.
