Arts Matters: February's Upcoming Arts Events

 

 

2023 marks Morris Arts' 50th Anniversary! We invite you to join us in celebrating throughout the year at our existing arts events and programs along with a few additional initiatives. Below is a compilation of what we have happening in the month of February. We look forward to continuing to connect with you through the arts!

 

 

ARTS IN COMMUNITY

 

SEWING HANDS: The Legacy of the Morristown Sewing School

FEBRUARY 4 | 1 - 3PM | FREE

Kick-off Black History Month by learning about (and possibly contributing to) a part of local history!

Join us for this free event at Headquarters Plaza that will bring awareness, discussions, and insight into the Morristown Sewing School. 

 

 

ARTS IN EDUCATION

 

A GIFT FOR MORRIS COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL ART TEACHERS

Sable Brushes

We received a donation of exceptional Winsor and Newton sable brushes and are excited to share them with Morris County high schools!

If you are an arts administrator or teacher, please fill out a pick-up form to be considered for this gift.

Schools will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Public and private schools are both welcome to submit requests.

 

 

2 SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.

For Morris County HS Seniors Pursuing the Arts

We are offering the Elaine Ehlers ($5k) and Eugenie Coladarci ($1.5k) Arts Scholarships to recognize seniors who exhibit artistic excellence in dance, drama, visual arts, or music.

Apply online by March 3, 2023.

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

FULL-TIME

The Director of Development is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fundraising to support Morris Arts’ mission and programs.

They lead fundraising events including Great Conversations, the Commercial Real Estate Breakfast and the Giralda Music & Arts Festival.

The position works closely with the Executive Director, the Morris Arts Board and the Fund Development Team.

Roxbury Arts Alliance presents

SWINGTIME DOLLS

Good Morning, Vietnam

FEBRUARY 4 | 2PM | $20

Investors Bank Theater, Succasunna

Grab your go-gos, your tie-dye, or your combat boots and journey back to the Vietnam era with the SwingTime Dolls! With their brand-new show experience Good Morning Vietnam, they honor our veterans through the hit music of the 1960s Vietnam era.

 


 

 

Lakeland Youth Symphony's

CHAMBER CONCERT

FEBRUARY 11 | 2PM | $

Denville Community Church

Enjoy the sounds of the Lakeland Youth Symphony's (LYS) orchestras at this chamber recital performance.

LYS has provided musical education and performance opportunities for young musicians in Northern New Jersey. The offer four progressively challenging levels of orchestras for experienced students, and a wonderful Prelude violin program for beginners. 

 


 

 

Arts by the People

THE WRITING LAB: Poetry with Dimitri Reyes

FEBRUARY 15 | 8 – 9:30PM | FREE

Zoom

Check out this virtual workshop series open to all people, all levels, that will focus on honing a particular element of writing. Our goal for The Virtual Workshop is to create a space for a community of writers who are serious about their work and to help them further their craft. The Virtual Workshop will include 30 minutes of lesson and prompt taught by our guest artist, then an hour of sharing and light critique.
