For 150 years, The Bethany Baptist
Church of Newark has been one of the leading African American houses
of worship, and for 20 of those years, the Church has featured
monthly jazz in its Saturday evening Vesper services.
January’s featured performers are the Joe Locke Trio. Vibraphone
virtuoso Joe Locke pushes the envelope of what the vibes can be. He
has performed and recorded with musicians including Grover Washington
Jr, Raul Midón, Kenny Barron, Eddie Henderson, Cecil Taylor, Dianne
Reeves, Eddie Palmieri, Ron Carter and The Beastie Boys.
