The Don Braden/Karl Latham co-led
Jam/Jazz/Funk group, Big Fun(k), is a dream band for the group of musicians
who have known each other and played in various groups together for years.
Each member is well known for their individual careers as band leaders,
sidemen, studio players and road men. Coming together in this collection
brings out the best in each player.
Don Braden is a world-renowned saxophonist/flutist/arranger/composer and recording artist who has
toured the world with top artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard,
Roy Haynes, the late Tony Williams and many others.
Karl Latham’s career has spanned the globe
performing with Grammy Award winning artists and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
members and has subbed on the Broadway productions of Bring It On, Hamilton, Beautiful, and Ain’t Too Proud.
Joining Don and Karl will be the amazing keyboardist/composer/arranger Oscar
Perez and bassist Gary Foote (WuTang Clan/Blood Sweat and Tears/Smokey
Robinson).
Don Braden is a Jazz
musician of the highest caliber. For over 30 years he has toured the
world leading his own ensembles on saxophone and flute, as a special guest,
and as a sideman with Jazz greats Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie
Hubbard, Tony Williams, Roy Haynes, and many others. He has composed
music for recordings (including 19 CDs as a leader and over 80 as a
sideman), film, and the television networks Nickelodeon, CBS and is also a
world-renowned educator, having spent over two decades giving master
classes at countless schools and universities, and running first class
educational programs such as the Litchfield Jazz Camp, NJPAC's Wells Fargo
Jazz For Teens, and most recently, the Harvard University Monday Jazz
Band.
Karl Latham has performed and recorded with Grammy Award winning artists,
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members and many acclaimed artists including The
Shirelles; Johnny Winter; Bernie Worrell; Mark Egan Unit1; John Lee Quartet
with Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Cyrus Chestnut, Jon Faddis; Ali Ryerson
with Pete Levin; Jerry Vivino; The Fantasy Band; Howard Paul with
Laurence Hobgood, Anat Cohen and Tom Scott; The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni
Group; Andy Snitzer; Vic Juris; Mitch Stein and Rachel Z. Karl has
performed in Europe for decades in the groups of vibraphonist Wolfgang
Lackerschmid and pianist Johannes Mossinger. Latham co-led the 2016
BMW World Jazz Award nominated “Constellations” with Mark Egan and Ryan
Carniaux. Karl is a long-standing adjunct instructor at Drew University, County
College of Morris and PCCC.
