hand spinningHANDS ON HISTORY: HAND SPINNING WITH WOOL

January 12

We are giving it a whorl at Fosterfields with our hands-on experience of creating yarn. You will use wool hand cards to prepare fibers for spinning, then use a drop spindle to create yarn. Take a spin on our spinning wheel or bring your own! This program is intended for both adults and/or children. Check it out!

Cost: $10 per adult/child pair. Preregistration is required.

 

In-Person Home School DaysHOMESCHOOL DAYS: HOORAY FOR HYDROPONICS

January 12

When the ground is frozen and cannot be dug… Hooray for hydroponics! Cleaner and more efficient than growing in soil, students will see firsthand how a hydroponic system works and make their own DIY hydroponic grower.  Learn more here.

January 13

How did people travel before they had cars? You'll find out in the transportation exhibit! See carriages that were pulled by horses, sit on an old-fashioned tractor, and pretend to drive the cars from over one hundred years ago. Find out more.

January 13 and 27

Make popcorn the old-fashioned way and learn how they did it before the microwave! Toast a marshmallow and enjoy a s’more. Check it out!

January 15

Courses in Nature is a monthly series for nature-minded adults led by an expert naturalist in which a topic is explored in depth with a multimedia presentation and a walk. In this session, discover the secrets of the Eastern Coyote, and how we can coexist with them. Learn more.

Put on your…bark? The flowers and leaves may be gone, but the coat of the trees - the bark - are still out there. Sprouts will explore the winter garden to see and feel this amazing feature. Click here to find out more.

Wondering if you can keep your garden in bloom all year long? Ann Fahey, Superintendent of Horticulture Education, will "walk" you through a year of blooms in this dynamic lecture. Bring a photo of your own garden and she will give you a few ideas to enhance it. Light refreshments will be served. Find out more.
