surprises throughout the next year. We asked David if he could
share some memories from his past 25 years, and we’ll be sharing
them with you in our weekly e-news.
We’re sure you’ll enjoy his 25 Years of Memories.
“INAUGURAL SEASON: MENTORS”
I had been advised to start off my tenure with a
bang! I wanted to feature some new work (a hallmark of my vision)
but also connect that work with well-known artists. The answer was
calling on my mentors to help. So, I was blessed to offer our
audiences Anne Meara starring in her new comedy After-Play,
premieres by A.R.Gurney, Arthur Laurents, and Dan Sullivan, all of
with whom I had long relationships as well as my Acting Teacher of
6 years, the great Uta Hagen!
The New York Times called it “a smashing debut season”. But for me it
all depended on the generosity of mentors in my life.
Mentorship is key in the Arts.
A fond memory of Uta: she would sit in our
green room after a show with any young people of our staff and over
a frozen margarita, pass on her advice on acting! They were
gathered all around on the floor like Socrates’ students eager to learn.
Priceless!
