out there! How do the animals handle it? There are many
different strategies, and we will explore them all. We will even try
to insulate tiny "frogs" and see if we can keep them warm in
the dens we build.
THE BOTANY BEHIND THE HOLLY-DAYS –

Learn about
holly, poinsettias and mistletoe. How did these plants become part of yearly
traditions? Find out and bring home a holiday swag to display and enjoy.

time of year, bald eagles from far up north begin to migrate south to
parts of New Jersey where water is not frozen. Become an eagle expert as
you learrn all about the bald eagle and its conservation success story.

FLORAL ARRANGING
FOR THE HOLIDAYS WITH SUPERMARKET FLOWERS
December 13
Ann Fahey,
Superintendent of Horticulture Education will demonstrate how to design
beautiful floral arrangements with supermarket bouquets for any holiday
table. We supply the container, the greens and the mechanics. You bring
your own supermarket bouquet to style. Check it

HOOTIN’ OWLS
December 13
Our
nighttime feathery friends come out at dusk to hunt. We'll learn about
their unique adaptations and how they spend the winter as we take a walk
on the trails to observe their forest habitat. We will also dissect a

The most wonderful time of the year is almost here! Tour the
Frelinghuysen Arboretum's Mansion decorated for the holidays in this first
annual Festival of Trees. Trees will be decorated by scouts, families,

WINTER MINI-CAMP
December 27 - December 29
Time off
from school is a great time to get out in nature and explore! Enjoy
walks, crafts, stories, games and activities! On Tuesday, discover all
there is to know about the bald eagles that spend the winter in NJ. On
Wednesday, explore the world of seeds; search for them on the trails and
even invent a seed of your own for our Seed Building Challenge. Thursday
is all about snow and ice; compete in an ice cube melting race, take a
winter scavenger hunt and much more! Sign up for one or more days, as
your schedule allows. Participants should bring a nut-free snack and
