Talene Monahon on Her New Revenge Comedy, Jane Anger

Talene Monahon tells us about her new play, Jane Anger, and the historical 1589 pamphlet that inspired it. The play depicts a narcissistic William Shakespeare, wrestling with writers’ block, who asks Jane, his former flame, for help. But in return, she wants his help publishing her pamphlet, which calls out sexist male playwrights.

Shakespeare Parodies of Popular Christmas Carols

Imagine familiar holiday tunes with new words: “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” becomes “Hamlet the Danish Princeling”, and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” becomes “Old King Lear’s Dividing His Crown”. These and more are found in the Shakespearean Holiday Songbook, created by Good Tickle Brain cartoonist Mya Gosling.

A New Rita Dove Poem Will Welcome Visitors to the Folger's Renovated Building Next Fall

A newly-commissioned poem by former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove will greet visitors to our renovated building when it reopens in 2023. The poem will be etched into marble along a path by the western entrance. Read more about the poem in Washingtonian, and learn more about the plans for our new entry gardens on the Folger website.

If you're making New Year's resolutions, why not resolve to enjoy more poetry in 2023? Join us for poetry readings throughout the year, beginning with Not Just Another Day Off, our annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January.
