December Update from Greenwood Gardens

The Ritual of Season

An air of tranquility envelopes the garden now, reminding us of Nature’s unwavering cyclicality. We respond to Her inclinations as if on cue, draining the water from our stately fountains to avoid the inevitable freezing temperatures; burrowing bulbs into the ground in anticipation of a bounty of delight come spring; and blowing leaves out of the Main House gutters and water out of the irrigation system to prevent icy blockages. There is reassurance to be found in the ritual of preparing Greenwood not just for winter, but for every season, a constant on which we can always rely.

Greenwood Gardens Staff help plant over 600 tulip bulbs on the Main Lawn in preparation for a beautiful spring-time display.

As we look back at an eventful year in which we marked the passing of Peter P. Blanchard III, our beloved Co-founder, welcomed a record number of visitors—more than 8,000—and were voted the “Prettiest Garden in New Jersey” by New Jersey Family magazine, we recognize how much you have made a difference in helping us move Greenwood forward.  We are deeply thankful to you for all the trust you have placed in us.  It ensures we can continue to fulfill our mission of connecting people with nature in a historic garden oasis, an endeavor Peter held dear.

We look forward to staying in touch over the winter months and invite you to keep an eye out for announcements about an array of exciting events, programs, and tours in celebration of Greenwood’s 20th anniversary in 2023.  We will be recognizing twenty years of nature, beauty, and history intended to revitalize all your senses.

Wishing you a warm and nature-filled holiday season,
