Light Opera of New Jersey is pleased to begin their 2022-23 season with a spectacular concert/semi-staged performance of Leonard Bernstein's comic operetta, Candide.  There will be two performances, Saturday, October 22 at 8:00 PM and Sunday October 23 at 3:00 PM at the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts (Madison, NJ).

This concert/semi-staged performance of Candide is a blend of Broadway and operatic styles. It will feature Maestro Jason Tramm leading the 30-piece Light Opera of New Jersey Orchestra, with over 60 singers in the chorus, and highly acclaimed soloists drawn from the best Broadway and operatic talent!

Candide is a fast-paced comic operetta with music composed by Leonard Bernstein, based on Voltaire’s satirical novel

The story follows the exiled, but forever optimistic Candide throughout his adventures in the Old and New Worlds.

Candide blindly follows the guidance of his tutor, Dr. Pangloss, careening through a series of wild adventures and astonishing coincidences. He returns home to his beloved tutor, enlightened by a new and more realistic philosophy of life.

Since its premier in 1956, Candide has achieved popularity in both opera houses and concert halls across the globe. LONJ will present the 1988 Scottish Opera version.

LONJ is a premier operetta, opera, and musical theater company founded in 1995 by William Corson, and Lauran Corson. To learn more about upcoming productions, visit https://lightoperaofnewjersey.org.
