Sure, everyone thinks that spring is the time for planting seeds, but plants have it all figured out. Many plants drop seeds in the fall— this gives seeds the chance to get used to the cold of winter and gives both birds and mammals opportunity to cache seeds for winter. Click here for more info!

In-Person Home School DaysHOME SCHOOL DAYS

FASCINATING FOREST – September 6 at Pyramid Mountain and September 13 at Great Swamp

Explore the wonders of the forest habitat and its inhabitants through hands-on activities and a guided walk. Focus on trees, plant life cycles and the jobs of roots, leaves, bark, branches and more.

Cost: $15 per child. Preregistration required.

OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GROW – September 8 at Frelinghuysen Arboretum

Plants need, water, light, air and food to grow but there are plants that can survive without ever putting roots in the ground.  Kids will learn about epiphytes or air plants and “plant” one in the perfect kind of planter they will create.

Cost: $10 per child. Preregistration required.

THE HARVEST – September 15 at Fosterfields

The harvest is an important time of year on the farm. See what grew over the summer and learn important garden skills in this fun class.

CATERPILLAR KIDS

Look under a leaf, inside a flower and up in the air… animals are everywhere! Learn about native plants that butterflies love, the importance of pollinators and all about the insects hidden in the butterfly garden. Check it out!

DASHING DRAGONFLIES

September 8

Learn all about these fascinating mini-predators and go for a walk to the pond with one of our naturalists to search for these fabulous fliers.  Participants receive a guide to common species that they can keep! Click here to learn more.
