Studio Montclair (SMI) is delighted to celebrate its 25th anniversary by presenting State of the Art 2022 as the inaugural event at our spacious new venue—the Leach Gallery. (Above: Jennifer Anne Moses, Dreaming of Spring in Spring, mixed media on canvas)

SMI is grateful for the generosity of both David Placek, Managing Partner of BDP Holdings, LLC, and the Montclair Center BID. Until he begins further development, Placek is providing the space for SMI to utilize the first floor of the Leach Building. We are also indebted to The Montclair Center BID, which provided a generous grant to renovate the space for use as a state-of-the-art gallery. SMI is hard at work writing additional grants to cover programming and expenses. Donations are very welcome! (right: Bud McNichol, Paradise Palms, Oil on Canvas)

State of the Art 2022
is our annual member exhibit, featuring the work of over 180 artists from throughout the United States in a great variety of mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, photography, and installation. It encompasses pieces ranging from eight inches to five feet, and stylistically includes work running the gamut between abstraction and hyperrealism. Equally impressive is SMI’s 14-foot-high soaring new venue, the Leach Gallery, which is three times larger than our flagship gallery located at 127 Bloomfield Avenue. The Leach Gallery will provide abundant expanded member opportunities, displaying works affiliated with SMI’s Incubator Program, curated exhibits, popup exhibits, and installations.
