This Week: OUTDOOR SURVIVOR SKILLS FOR ADULTS June 18 Now there's a mini version of our popular Survivor Summer Camp just for adults! Why should kids have all the fun? Spend a morning in the forest learning how to pick a campsite, set up a tent, build and light a campfire and practice good camping ethics. Click here to learn more! Cost: $15 per person. Preregistration is required.    FOREST BATHING WITH RICH COLLINS, ANFT GUIDE  June 18 at Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center and June 19 at Frelinghuysen Arboretum Enjoy a combination of Japanese oriented walking, meditation, mindfulness, and wellness promotion. Wear comfortable shoes for walking. Learn more here! Cost: $20 per person. Preregistration is required.    FATHER'S DAY GEOCACHING June 19 Geocaching is a great outdoor activity for families! Learn how to use a GPS unit or geocaching app along with a map to locate hidden treasures, called "caches" along the trails. All materials are provided. Check it out! Cost: $12 per person. Preregistration is required.    EVERYTHING YOU NEVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT MOSQUITOES June 20 at Pyramid Mountain and June 24 at Great Swamp We all have to deal with mosquitoes in NJ, whether we like it or not, so arm yourself with the facts during National Mosquito Control Awareness Week! Can you pass the mosquito fact or fiction quiz? Learn everything you need to know in an interactive presentation followed by a visit from Morris County Mosquito Control who will show us all the mosquitoes' life stages up close and talk about the services they offer. Then take a short walk to look for unintentional mosquito attractants using your newfound knowledge. Click here for more info. Cost: FREE. Preregistration is required.    HOME SCHOOL HIKERS: AMPHIBIANS June 21 This program for older homeschoolers features a 2–3-mile hike on the rugged trails of Pyramid Mountain with a nature lesson along the way! In this session, we will learn about the amphibians of the forest: toads, newts, frogs and salamanders. Hikers should bring a snack and water and wear appropriate shoes for hiking. Learn more! Cost: $12 per child. Preregistration is required.    LITTLE FARM FRIENDS: SUPER SEEDS June 24 Learn all about vegetable seeds and how crops grow in this Pre-K class. Check it out! Click here to see all options!   GARDENING CAMPS Branching Out!  Group A • Ages 10 – 13 • Tuesdays & Thursdays, July 5 – August 11 • 9 am – 11:30 am • $400 per camper Group B • Ages 6 – 9 • Mondays & Wednesdays, July 6 – August 10 • 9 am – 11 am • $350 per camper Hands-on gardening is the perfect way for kids to get outside and get growing. Guided by instructors, children plant their own gardens, tend and harvest lots of fresh produce and flowers, participate in creative projects and activities and, best of all, taste the fruits of their labors. Arboretum Artists Ages 8 – 12 • 10 am – 12 noon • August 15 – August 19 • $200 per camper Calling all creative kids! This camp is for those interested in both art and nature. Each daily session will focus on a different artist and artistic movement and its relationship to nature and the garden. Learn techniques from use of the color wheel to proper brush strokes using the outdoors as inspiration. All materials will be provided.   NATURE CAMPS Woodsy Walkers Ages 2 – 4 with an adult • 10 am – 11:30 am • $50 per camper June 29 – July 1 or July 13 – July 15 or August 3 – August 5 Introduce your kids to the nature camp experience.  Little campers, accompanied by an adult, explore the trails and discover a variety of natural history topics with stories, games, walks, and crafts! Sense-ational Ages 5 – 7 • 9:30 am – 3 pm • $200 per camper   July 25 – July 29 or August 1 – August 5 Kids experience the natural world with all five senses and discover how animals use their senses to survive. Meet LIVE animals, have adventures on the trails, play games, make crafts, and more! Survivor: Backpacker  Ages 8 – 10 • 9 am – 3 pm • $225 per camper June 27 – July 1 or July 11 – July 15 or July 18 – July 22 Kids learn fun and valuable skills in our active, hands-on Survivor camps. This season’s topic, Backpacker, is all about hiking, being prepared, hanging bear bags, setting up campsites, purifying water, tying knots and more! Our camps help boost kids’ self-confidence and bring them closer to the natural world, all while having fun!
