THE ADVOCATE
World War II, August of 1943, and the American air war
against Germany is still escalating. Out of that aerial combat
comes a hero, a fighter ace – Major Albert Markham – who is now subject
of an investigation by Major Harry Voss of the Judge Advocate General’s
Corps for the murder of one of his fellow pilots. The case, at
first, appears to Voss to be an open and shut issue, but as he probes
deeper, puzzled by the pilot’s surrendering demeanor, he begins to
suspect Markham’s actions hint at a far larger offense, and bring Voss
up against the dilemma of prosecuting someone for an act that’s a crime
today, but may be military strategy tomorrow.
