Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center, a nonprofit theatre company dedicated to diverse stories and casts will once again present a summer series of plays on the porch of duCret School of the Arts in Plainfield. This program is made possible in part by a 2022 HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the Union County Board of County Commissioners.  (Above: Kelly Branco, Asia McKnight, and Will Horner. The first play of the three-play series is The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)[revised].

Written by the original performers Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, The Complete Works was a hit in London and New York. In the play, three actors take on the Herculean task of presenting all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays in 97 minutes. The performers approach the task with creativity, inventiveness and a bit of insanity. Othello is performed as a rap, the history plays are combined in a football game, Titus Andronicus becomes a cooking show, and Hamlet is presented forwards, at rapid pace, and backwards. It all combines for a riotous evening of theater that will be enjoyed by Shakespeare fans and detractors alike.

The Complete Works stars Will Horner who appeared in Dragonfly’s Romeo and Juliet as Romeo, in Gormenghast as Titus, and in last summer’s porch play Last Train to Nibroc. Kelly Branco, who was also in Last Train to Nibroc and Romeo and Juliet plays the second member of the troupe. The trio is rounded out by Asia McKnight, who is new to Dragonfly, but has appeared in plays at Villagers Theatre, Playhouse 22, and Kean Stage. The Complete Works is directed by Catherine LaMoreaux, Dragonfly’s Artistic Director.
