We all have to deal with mosquitoes in NJ, whether we like it or not, so arm yourself with the facts during National Mosquito Control Awareness Week! Can you pass the mosquito fact or fiction quiz? Learn everything you need to know in an interactive presentation followed by a visit from Morris County Mosquito Control who will show us all the mosquitoes' life stages up close and talk about the services they offer. Then take a short walk to look for unintentional mosquito attractants using your newfound knowledge. Learn more here!

Where do snakes live? What do snakes eat? Why do they shed their skin? Find out the answers at this family-friendly event. With various live snakes on display, our snake expert will help us understand the vital role that snakes play in nature. Our snake handler may even allow careful touching of the snakes! Environmental Education

September 6 at Great Swamp and September 13 at Pyramid Mountain: Fascinating Forest - Explore the wonders of the forest habitat and its inhabitants through hands-on activities and a guided walk. Focus on trees, plant life cycles and the jobs of roots, leaves, bark, branches and more.

Horticulture

July 14: Suds and Bubbles - Let's have some good clean fun! You will use math, science, botany and creativity, to make your own bars of soap by choosing botanical add-ins, essential oils and dyes.

August 4: Blooming Bouquets - Visit the Arboretum's gardens, learn the correct way to cut flowers and successfully arrange them into a beautiful display. All materials supplied and you can take your arrangement home!

September 8: Oh, The Places You'll Grow - Plants need, water, light, air and food to grow but there are plants that can survive without ever putting roots in the ground. You will learn about epiphytes or air plants and “plant” one in the perfect kind of planter they will create.  

Historic Sites

September 15: The Harvest - The harvest is an important time of year on the farm. See what grew over the summer and learn important garden skills in this fun class.
