Poetry Month Kickoff for Kids

Beginning April 4th and happening all month long! Join in the fun at the Main Branch Children's Room.

Ages 0 - 12, all day Mondays - Saturdays.

 

Storytime and Crafts for Kids

April 5th: We love our library!

Reading and crafts celebration in the Main Branch Children's Room. 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Best for ages 0 - 12 (and caregivers too!)

April 7th: Toddler Time at Vailsburg Branch

11:00 a.m. - Noon. Ages 2 - 5

 




April 5th: Raise a Glass to Newark's History!

Neil Maher, Professor of History at NJIT and Rutgers-Newark take us on a fascinating history of the brewery industry in Newark.

5:30 p.m. reception and 6:00 p.m. program start. This event is presented in partnership with the Newark History Society and NJPAC. Free parking at the Essex County Parking Deck (Newark Bears Stadium) located at 20-54 Bridge Street.

Join us for the opening reception of Self Made, an exhibition of photos of Black women business owners in Newark, with a focus on entrepreneurs in the city’s West and South Wards. The show celebrates their beauty, creativity, and connection to community.

Saturday, April 9th, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Please join us between 1:00-5:00 p.m. in the James Brown African American Room for an artist talk and reception welcoming the glass sculpture, "Makers" to NPL.

Made out of cast and blown glass by Pittsburgh-based sculptor Dean Allison, "Makers" tells the story of two young student glassblowers at work in a Newark glass arts studio.

Join us at the Main Branch, Centennial Hall for the 30th session of Ras Heru’s "Rhythm & Words: Creative Writing" workshop series. Themed and titled “Poets Who Love Newark”, this workshop’s writing prompts will center around living and growing up in Newark, similar environments, and how the experience shapes us.

(Children's Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a celebration of children, families, and reading. This event emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Join us for stories, crafts and literary fun at our Main Branch in Centennial Hall between 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.
