I'm not really sure why The Last Picture Show has stuck with me over all these years (I probably saw it for the first time as a teenager, in the late 1970s). I guess the 'coming of age' aspect to the narrative—the film is directed and co-written by Peter Bogdanovich and is adapted from a novel of the same name by Larry McMurtry—spoke to me at the time. And yet every time I watch it, I see something new in it, and obviously as a lover of historic theaters there's the fact that the slowly decaying movie theater is almost like another character in the film. I hope you'll join me on Friday night to see this great film in a beautiful historic theatre, 'the way film should be seen."' —Craig Sumberg (UCPAC Executive Director)
