FRIDAY, MARCH 11, 2022, AT 8:00 PM I'm not really sure why The Last Picture Show has stuck with me over all these years (I probably saw it for the first time as a teenager, in the late 1970s). I guess the 'coming of age' aspect to the narrative—the film is directed and co-written by Peter Bogdanovich and is adapted from a novel of the same name by Larry McMurtry—spoke to me at the time. And yet every time I watch it, I see something new in it, and obviously as a lover of historic theaters there's the fact that the slowly decaying movie theater is almost like another character in the film. I hope you'll join me on Friday night to see this great film in a beautiful historic theatre, 'the way film should be seen."' —Craig Sumberg (UCPAC Executive Director)
Nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, The Last Picture Show is considered a classic. In 1998, the Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."
Enjoy free popcorn and an organ concert performed by Eric Fahner before the movie. Organist begins at 7:30 p.m.
