The Hungry Woman: A Mexican Medea, by Cherríe Moraga, is a powerful play that explores internal exile as the result of racial/ethnic identity and lesbianism set within the context of Aztec mythology.

Exile and alienation are at the center of Moraga’s play. Taking inspiration from an ancient Greek tragedy by Euripides that explores the connection between being a woman and an outcast, Moraga’s Medea, powerless in the face of male dominance, like her ancient Greek sister, kills what she loves best as the only course of action left to her.
