Today, we are
revisiting the Folger Theatre production of District
Merchants. The play, a variation of Shakespeare’s The
Merchant of Venice, was a Folger Theatre world premiere by Aaron
Posner, directed by Michael John Garcés.
District Merchants is set among the Black and Jewish populations of
an imagined time and place that is simultaneously the post-Civil
War period of Washington D.C.; the early modern period of Venice as
depicted by Shakespeare; and contemporary times.
Actor Dani
Stoller, who plays Jessica, joins us to introduce this
evocative ENCORES selection.
