This Week: Starting the Apple Orchard January 15 Even though it's cold, the work on the farm doesn't stop. Come assist the farmers with maintaining the apple orchard and learn how orchards are planned!  Check it out! Cost: $10 per person. Preregistration is required.   Hands-On History: Decorative Stenciling Workshop January 15 Explore the art of decorative stenciling in this workshop! Discover what stenciling was used for and use paint to create your own stencil artwork. Please wear older clothes, as we will be working with paint. No experience necessary, supplies provided. Maple Sugaring Demos January 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, and 30, February 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27, and March 5, 6, and 12 Learn how to identify and tap maple trees, collect sap, and make real maple syrup over a wood-fired evaporator. This year, the program will be held entirely outdoors, so dress for the weather. Spiles and syrup will be available for purchase, while supplies last. Find out more! Winter Weeds January 19 Take a closer look at the dried stalks, leaves, and seeds of meadow plants to learn how to identify them without their summer blooms. Learn more here! Lots of plants are named in honor of presidents and lots more are just plain presidential. Thomas Jefferson described botany as "among the most useful of the sciences," so put on your thinking cap and keep your eyes open!
