International
Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration. Generations: Portraits of Holocaust
Survivors
A new photography
exhibition at Imperial War Museum (IWM) in London will bring together over 50
contemporary portraits of Holocaust survivors and their families, shining a
light on the full lives they have lived and our collective responsibility to
cherish their stories. In partnership with the Royal Photographic Society
(RPS), Generations: Portraits of Holocaust Survivors showcases new works
from 14 contemporary photographers, alongside photography by RPS patron, Her
Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge. Displayed for the very first time,
these powerful photographs capture the special connections between Holocaust
survivors and the younger generations of their families. The majority of the
photographs in Generations: Portraits of Holocaust Survivors were captured in
Spring 2021, presenting a brand-new body of work from contemporary
photographers. Join us for a live virtual tour from the IWM in London on the
opening day of the exhibit on Holocaust Remembrance Day. This event is being
co-sponsored by 3GNY Descendants of Holocaust Survivors, 3GNJ & 3GPhilly.

Dr. Elizabeth R. Baer author of The Genocidal Gaze from German Southwest Africa to the Third Reich
In her book, Dr. Baer examines the threads of shared ideology in the Herero
and Nama genocide and the Holocaust. Using concepts such as racial hierarchies,
living space, and the final solution that were deployed by German authorities
in 1904 and again in the 1930s and 1940s to justify genocide. The Genocidal
Gaze is an original and challenging discussion of such contemporary issues as
colonial practices, European and African race relations, definitions of
genocide, and postcolonial theory. This event will be moderated by Dr.
Jeff Benvenuto from Gratz College. The Institute of Holocaust and Genocide
Studies at RVCC is pleased to present this event along with The Mercer
Holocaust, Genocide & Human Rights Education Center at Mercer County
Community College.

Learning
Through Experience Online: Letters from Anne and Martin. A live theater
performance.
Letters from Anne and
Martin is a unique production that combines the iconic voices of Anne Frank and
Martin Luther King, Jr., both of whom were born in 1929 yet seemingly represent
drastically different times and cultures. Developed from excerpts from Anne
Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl and Dr. King’s “Letter from a Birmingham
Jail,” this piece evokes the important messages from these legendary figures,
as they write of their hopes and plans for a peaceful and unified world. This
Online Learning Through Experience Event is being held in partnership
with The Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect.

Sunday, April 10th, 2 pm – Save the Date!
Treasures of the Jewish Art Music: The St.
Petersburg School and Beyond
Save
the date for our Yom HaShoah Commemoration with the RVCC Music Department. This
will be presented as a hybrid event both on stage and online. Join us in
the discovery of “Jewish art music,” a movement that originated at the end of
the nineteenth century in Russia and flourished through the twentieth. The
highlight of this movement was the founding of the Society for Jewish Folk
Music in 1908 by a group of students and graduates of the St. Petersburg
Conservatory. Our recital will feature rarely performed works by composers of
the early 20th century, most notably Joseph Achron, Alexander Krein, and
Solomon Rosowsky. These composers established a unique genre that blended
traditional Jewish folk and liturgical music with Western European and Russian
Romantic styles.
More details to register will be available soon.
