COMING IN DECEMBER—THE NUTCRACKER ROCKS!

Gabriel Chajnik Reinvents Everyone’s Favorite Holiday Ballet

Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater presents The Nutcracker Rocks, on the stage of the Axelrod, beginning on December 11. A magical retelling of a family holiday classic, The Nutcracker Rocks is based on the original Tchaikovsky score, reimagined by renowned rockers Alex Rosamilia and Alex Levine, members of famed NJ band, The Gaslight Anthem.

A holiday tradition at the Axelrod, The Nutcracker Rocks springs from the imagination of AXCBT Artistic Director Gabriel Chajnik, whose unique take on the original Victorian era story transports its audience to a contemporary land of brave toy soldiers and sweet sugar plum fairies. Chajnik directs and choreographs—and creates his own amazing projections!

Starring as Uncle Dross is Broadway actor Josh Canfield, also known as a cast member on NBC’s Survivor. At the Axelrod, Josh played the Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Josh appeared most recently on Broadway in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 and has released a holiday single, “No Magic at Christmas” (available on Spotify, iTunes, and Apple Music).

The production includes the professional members of AXCBT along with the young apprentices of the company and students from Axelrod Performing Arts Academy.

Don’t miss this exciting new production of everyone’s holiday favorite!
